The Chandrababu Naidu government has started the district reorganization exercise and considering proposals for the formation of a new district with the capital Amaravati as its center, a new district with Markapuram as its center in Prakasam district, and a special district with Rampachodavaram as its center.
Since the division of 13 districts into 26 districts during the previous government’s tenure, leaving aside the needs of the people and administrative convenience, many controversies and dissatisfactions have arisen. There have been criticisms that the decision, which was taken without properly collecting the opinions of the people, has led to chaos.
To rectify this situation, the coalition government has formed a sub-committee with seven ministers to study the reorganization of districts and the formation of new districts. This committee has already started receiving public petitions. District collectors are also taking petitions from the people.
After reviewing all the proposals received, the sub-committee will submit its report before the assembly sessions. There is a possibility of forming Amaravati Urban District as a five-constituency district by merging 29 villages in Amaravati limits along with Mangalagiri, Tadikonda, Pedakurapadu, Nandigama, and Jaggayyapet constituencies.
The remaining Guntur East, West, Prathipadu, Ponnur, and Tenali constituencies in Guntur district will continue as another district. The possibility of forming a new Markapur district by merging Giddalur, Kanigiri, Markapuram, Yerragondapalem, and Darsi constituencies is under consideration.
In addition, it is believed that administrative convenience will be provided if Addanki in Bapatla district and Kandukur in Nellore district are merged into Prakasam district. If this is done, the two districts will be balanced.
At present, the people of Rampachodavaram have to travel more than 180 km to Paderu district headquarters. The Collector also has to conduct grievance programs at two places. To solve this problem, a new district is being considered, combining Rampachodavaram and Chintoor divisions.
There are also proposals for re-division of some constituencies. It is being planned to merge Gannavaram and Penamaluru constituencies, which are currently in Krishna district, into NTR district. Similarly, there is a possibility of including Shringavarapukotta constituency in Visakhapatnam district, Mandapeta in East Godavari district, and Ramachandrapuram in Kakinada district. Proposals have been made to merge Kaikaluru constituency into Krishna district and Railway Kodur in Tirupati district.
