Story:

Mirai begins after the Kalinga war, where Emperor Ashoka, disturbed by the carnage, seals his divine powers into nine sacred texts and entrusts them to warriors across the world. Generations later, their descendants continue to guard these powerful scriptures.

Among them is Ambica (Shriya Saran), protector of the ninth text, who foresees danger looming. Following the guidance of sage Agastya (Jayaram), she sacrifices her own motherhood, abandoning her newborn son to protect the legacy.

Years later, the ruthless Mahabir Lama (Manchu Manoj) rises to power, having already claimed six of the texts. To stop him, Vibha (Ritika Nayak) sets out in search of Ambika’s son, Vedha (Teja Sajja)—now a 24-year-old orphan leading a simple life. At first, Vedha dismisses his destiny, but Lama’s relentless pursuit forces him to accept the truth.

The film follows Vedha’s journey to unlock the weapon Mirai, protect the final text, and face Mahabir Lama in a high-stakes battle. Along the way, gripping questions unfold: What drives Lama’s obsession? How is Mirai connected to the Treta Yuga? And will Ved rise to fulfill his legacy? The rest of the film unfolds with gripping questions.

Review:

Teja Sajja is back on the big screen with Mirai, confidently stepping into the superhero genre once again. As Vedha, his act begins innocuous but progressively becomes an intense action as the narrative progresses. The latter part, loaded with high-octane action and emotional outbursts, really showcases Teja’s potential in terms of taking up larger-than-life characters. His dedication in action sequences is visibly evident and brings legitimacy to his character.

The real game-changer in Mirai is Manchu Manoj. As Mahabir Lama, he delivers one of his career-best performances as a villain. Unlike his earlier negative roles, Manoj balances menace with subtlety, leaving a lasting impact. It cannot be denied that his tough appearances, powerful screen presence, and more so the rich backstory of Mahabir Lama have made him stand out as the pillar of the film. Following the powerful performance, it would not be surprising if he becomes one of the most sought-after villains in Indian cinema.

Ritika Nayak is adorable but she has limited scope, while Shriya Saran makes an intriguing impact in her short time in the film. Veteran actors highly experienced Jagapathi Babu and Jayaram add their own value to the film, and Getup Srinu is well-suited to the story.

The storyline, inspired by nine ancient books, keeps audiences hooked from the beginning. The central conflict—Mahabir Lama’s obsession with acquiring these books to dominate the world—adds intensity and richness to the screenplay. His layered backstory brings freshness and strengthens the hero-villain showdown.

The uneven pacing and a few jokes that did not land, particularly in the first half, made it challenging to situate the film. It truly picked up the pace in the one episode, where a massive bird was guarding the divine weapon Mirai. After this, the film showcased stunning visuals, extreme tension and high stakes drama, and thrilling storytelling from start to finish until the climactic sequences. The climactic moments have a deeper connection to Lord Rama, but undoubtedly deliver a fantastic balance of excitement and emotion, so that audiences leave with chills!

Gowra Hari’s background score stands out as a major highlight, amplifying crucial scenes and adding a devotional layer to the storytelling. The VFX team deserves credit. Backed by People Media Factory, the film’s scale and grandeur are uncompromised, making it a true visual treat.

The dialogues by Manibabu Karanam enhance the script, and Karthik Gattamneni tackles the dual role of director and cinematographer, highlighting his wealth of creativity. He successfully combines mythology with a superhero narrative and wonderful visuals, demonstrating he can be an impressive storyteller too.

Overall Mirai is an impressive and visually stunning, emotionally engaging superhero flick. Despite slow moments, the scale, larger-than-life performances and technical mastery keep it interesting and are more than enough to make it a must-watch.
