Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao said that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will conduct an aerial survey in the districts affected by heavy rains and floods on Thursday. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao held a teleconference with the collectors and SPs of Medak, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal and Sircilla districts, which were severely affected by heavy rains, on Wednesday night and reviewed the situation.
On the directions of the Chief Minister, the relief and rehabilitation programs, property and life-saving measures were reviewed once again tonight. Special Chief Secretary of Disaster Management Department Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary of Irrigation Department Rahul Bojja, Fire Services Department DG Nagi Reddy and special officers assigned to the flood-affected districts also participated in this teleconference.
Speaking on this occasion, the Chief Secretary said that despite the heavy rains in the last 24 hours, the severity of the disaster was reduced with the timely measures taken by the administration. District Collectors and SPs were instructed to be alert as there is a possibility of rain on Thursday as well.
He said that heavy rains are likely to occur in Nirmal and Kamareddy districts tomorrow, and if necessary, SDRF and NDRF teams will be sent to these districts. Irrigation department officials said that the reservoir is out of danger as the water in-flow to the Pocharam reservoir has reduced.
He said that the people of Roop Singh Thanda and Wadi villages, who were caught in the flood water, have been shifted to safer places. The CS advised the District Collector to shift the people of the downstream areas to safer places as three lakh cusecs of water is being released from the SRSP and one lakh 90 thousand cusecs of water from the Nizam Sagar Project.
He said that adequate police security should be established near culverts, overflowing streams and low-lying areas and proper precautions should be taken to ensure that no one goes there.
He said that those who have been shifted to rehabilitation centers from flooded villages and low-lying areas should be provided with adequate food, drinking water and other basic amenities. He also said that the power lines and transformers damaged by the rains should be restored immediately.
