Namit Malhotra on Ramayana: “Global or Nothing”

The high-budget, star-studded film Ramayana is drawing widespread attention even before its release. Producer Namit Malhotra has been regularly sharing updates about the project, raising expectations among audiences. In a recent interview, he expressed his confidence in the film, stating that if it fails to appeal not only to Indian audiences but also to viewers overseas, he would consider it a failure.

Malhotra added that the team aims to match the scale of Hollywood blockbusters like Avatar and Gladiator. “Our goal is to introduce the story of the Ramayana to the world,” he said.

Nitish Tiwari is reportedly directing the film on a budget of nearly ₹4,000 crore. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi portrays Sita, and Yash takes on the role of Ravana. The makers plan to release the first part of the film during Diwali 2026, followed by the second part in Diwali 2027.

Speaking about Indian cinema’s reception globally, Malhotra noted that the world had previously overlooked Indian films, which disappointed him. He believes that Ramayana will change that perception and draw international attention toward India.
