Tollywood actress Anupama Parameswaran is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Parada, directed by Praveen Kandregula. The movie, which also stars Darshana Rajendran in a pivotal role, has completed its shooting and is set to hit theaters on August 22. As part of the promotional activities, Anupama recently participated in an interview where she made some candid remarks about the challenges faced by heroines in the film industry.
In the interview, Anupama addressed the struggles of continuing as a heroine, highlighting the double standards within the industry: “It’s not easy to sustain a career as a heroine. We are often criticized for showing attitude over trivial matters. No matter how early we arrive on set, work starts late, but if heroes arrive late, it’s not seen as an issue. When I question this, I am labeled as difficult. I’ve faced a lot of hurt over this in the past, but I no longer pay attention to it. Even when I bring it up to directors or producers, they fail to provide a proper response. They can speak for an hour without addressing the problem, while expecting us to complete work in a shorter time frame. If I ask for more time, they say, ‘It’s my money, why should you care?’ But when heroes ask for the same, no one complains. Some of the behavior that happens outside the industry is replicated within it, especially in how women are treated. Whatever we do, it is often viewed negatively. Unfortunately, heroines are not given the same level of importance as heroes in this industry.”
Her comments have since gone viral on social media, sparking conversations about gender inequality in the film industry.
