During the initial years of her career, Shruti Haasan faced a number of obstacles, and some of her initial movies failed to leave a mark at the box office. Sadly, in film industry, actresses are labeled in a very unfair way when their movies fail, and words like “Iron Leg” tend to be applied to them quite regularly. Quite notably, male actors do not suffer this indignity as much. Though there were setbacks with films such as Anaganaga O Dheerudu and Oh My Friend, Shruti’s career graph changed considerably when she acted in Gabbar Singh, which was a huge hit. Not only did this wipe out the “Iron Leg” reputation but also saw her being given the endearing nickname of “Golden Leg.”
In an open interview, Shruti was talking about the demeaning labels that she got through the first stage of her career. In her first two films, she acted opposite Siddharth, and was villainously branded “Iron Leg.” Along with that, she thanked Pawan Kalyan, and director Harish Shankar, for ignoring those labels, and still considering her for the fantastic opportunity to work on Gabbar Singh. Gabbar Singh was a smashing success which changed her career.
Shruti clarified she does not consider “Iron Leg” or “Golden Leg”, as anything significant. She considers herself to be simply, an ordinary person and a dedicated actress who is very passionate about her work. Expressing gratitude to her fans, Shruti recognized their sustained loyalty. Speaking about her film, 3, she mentioned that if it had been released in the contemporary OTT, and Pan-India market, it would have been a blockbuster. With the online hit “Kolaveri Di,” Shruti feels 3 would have had a much larger viewership and hit new heights.
Discussing her next project Coolie, Shruti told us that she will be playing the character Preeti. She said that after shooting for the music video Inimel, Lokesh Kanagaraj approached her for the role. Shruti describes this project as a special landmark in her career and is looking forward to showcasing her performance in this role.
