Pithapuram: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Friday announced that a permanent solution is in the works for the long-standing coastal erosion problem in the Uppada region of Pithapuram constituency.
Speaking on the matter, Pawan Kalyan said the NDA government at the Centre is actively reviewing a proposal to develop coastal protection structures in Uppada, with an estimated cost of ₹323 crore. The project is being pursued through the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
“On average, the coastline has been eroding by 1.23 metres annually over the past five years, resulting in the loss of nearly 12 metres of coastal land. This has had a severe impact on nearby villages, especially the homes of fishermen. As part of our commitment to the NDA’s election promises, we are prepared to begin construction immediately upon receiving the required approvals,” the Deputy CM stated.
He added that the state government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has already submitted the detailed project proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Expressing confidence, Pawan Kalyan said, “We hope Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will respond positively to the aspirations of the people of Kakinada. The Centre has consistently supported Andhra Pradesh, and we are optimistic that this project will be approved, bringing long-awaited relief to the affected communities.”
