Mumbai: In the wake of the unfortunate death of stuntman SM Raju on July 13 during the shoot of Vettuvan, directed by Pa. Ranjith, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has stepped forward with a major humanitarian gesture. Deeply affected by the incident, Akshay has facilitated health and accident insurance for nearly 650 stuntmen and stuntwomen working across the Indian film industry.
The initiative has earned Akshay widespread praise from the film fraternity and industry workers. According to reports, the insurance policy provides cashless medical treatment ranging between ₹5 lakh and ₹5.5 lakh, irrespective of whether injuries occur on set or elsewhere.
A senior stunt professional who has worked on films like OMG 2, Dhadak 2, and Jigra thanked Akshay, stating to Hindustan Times: “Thanks to Akshay sir, a large section of the stunt community now has essential protection. His gesture has brought hope and relief to hundreds who risk their lives every day for action cinema.”
