Shankar Declares ‘Velpari’ As His New Dream Project

Renowned filmmaker Shankar, widely credited with elevating the standards of Indian cinema through technically pathbreaking films, has declared his upcoming film Velpari as his new “dream project”. Speaking to the media, the director—known for hits like Robo—said while Robo was once his most ambitious venture, Velpari now holds that title.

He stated that the film aims to set new benchmarks and will introduce advanced technologies on par with international titles like Avatar and Game of Thrones, positioning it as a proud Indian Tamil film on the global stage. However, his comments have sparked a wave of discussion online.

While many fans expressed excitement over the scale of the project, others raised concerns about its production budget and narrative length. Some speculated that Shankar might again indulge in extensive filming, with reports suggesting over 24 hours of footage being shot. Despite the criticism, industry circles are closely watching Velpari, given Shankar’s past influence on directors including SS Rajamouli, who once referred to him as his “OG director”.
