YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is going to intensify his political campaign throughout Andhra Pradesh, challenging the TDP–Jana Sena–BJP ruling alliance led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan.
After his recent tours of Guntur and Chittoor districts—where he met with mango farmers at Bangarupalyam and went out of his way to express his support—Jagan is now preparing to make a crucial trip to Nellore district on July 17, party sources said.
During his visit in the coming days, Jagan is supposed to greet former MLA Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy who has been injured recently reportedly in an attack by TDP MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy’s followers. He is also expected to visit former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy, who is under judicial custody in the Nellore district prison. The visit is meant to provide moral and political support to the beleaguered YSRCP leaders.
In the beginning, Jagan had intended to visit Nellore on July 3, but the schedule was shelved amid heightened political tensions. Sources indicated that local TDP leaders had issued threats about delaying his helicopter landing, forcing the party to postpone the trip.
Now that the new date has been fixed, preparations for the tour have entered full throttle. Top YSRCP leaders including MLCs Chandrashekar Reddy, Talasila Raghuram, Merugu Muralidhar, and former minister Anil Kumar Yadav, ex-MLA Kiliveti Sanjeevaiah, and Kakani Poojitha are taking care of the arrangements so that the visit is peaceful.
While party sources have authenticated the new plan for July 17, an official announcement by the YSRCP central leadership is yet to come. The visit is also politically crucial at a time when the party is struggling to regroup and motivate its cadre after the recent shift of power.
By going to Nellore, Jagan intends to send a sharp message of unity and solidarity to his party chiefs while confronting the actions and increasing aggression of the ruling coalition in recent times.
