A Khammam court has dismissed the SC and ST atrocity case registered against senior Telangana politician, former Union Minister and presently Congress Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdhury. After a long hearing, the court ruled that the allegations against Renuka Chowdhury were not proven and issued this crucial verdict.
This verdict has brought great political and personal relief to Renuka Chowdhury. The case was registered based on incidents that took place in 2014. A woman named Kalavathi, wife of Bhukya Ramji, filed a complaint against Renuka Chowdhury. Kalavathi alleged that Renuka Chowdhury had cheated her by promising to give her husband or herself a ticket from the Waira assembly constituency.
In this regard, she filed a complaint with the police and also approached the court. The trial of the case continued in the SC and ST court of the Khammam District Court. Since the allegations in this case were serious, the trial took a long time. After carefully examining the arguments and evidence of both the parties, the court issued its final decision.
Senior lawyers Niranjan Reddy and Maddi Srinivas Reddy argued on behalf of Renuka Chowdhury in this case. They told the court that the allegations of fraud and SC and ST atrocities against Renuka Chowdhury were baseless and had no evidence. The court, after considering all the evidence and arguments, made it clear that the allegations against Renuka Chowdhury were not proven.
With this, the judge issued the verdict dismissing the case. Although the case damaged her reputation to some extent, the court’s verdict in her favor came as a huge relief to her. She was a two-time Rajya Sabha member and the Chief Whip of the Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party from 1986 to 1998. She was also the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare in the HD Deve Gowda cabinet from 1997 to 1998. She left the Telugu Desam Party in 1998 and joined the Congress Party.
