CM Chandrababu says Veligonda project be completed by June, 2026

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed that the Veligonda project, which is crucial for Prakasam district, be completed by June 2026. He clarified that the necessary funds will be sanctioned for this. Conducting a review on the Water Resources Department, he directed the officials to complete the Handreeniva Sujala Sravanthi Phase-1 works from the 15th of this month and release 3,850 cusecs of water to the full capacity of the Jeedipalli Reservoir.

He suggested that water be released to the Punganur and Kuppam branch canals through the Phase-2 canal on July 31. He directed that work should be started to provide water to Kadapa through Galeru Nagari. The CM said that the Polavaram left canal work should be completed by the end of this month.

The CM said that more attention should be paid to increasing groundwater levels and that the irrigation department as well as the Panchayat Raj department should also be involved in this matter. The CM said that due to the rains in the coming days, water will flow abundantly into all projects and that it should be utilized through comprehensive management.

Chandrababu said that the incoming flows should be diverted to every area of the Seema through Handreniwa and Pothireddypadu and all the reservoirs should be filled. There is more potential for water storage in the Somashila and Kandaleru projects in the Penna basin, and the farmers of those ayacuts should be given the required irrigation water at present and the projects should be filled later.

Similarly, the Chief Minister ordered that the work on the Galeru Nagari Canal, which supplies water to Kadapa, should also be started soon. He said that tenders should be called immediately and work should be started to provide water to the last areas of Chittoor district through the Handreniwa Phase 2 canal.

He clarified that the 7 packages required to carry water up to Anakapalle should be completed, and there are no exceptions to this. He suggested that the irrigation projects in Uttarandhra should be completed within the stipulated time. The Tarakarama Theertha project should be completed within a year, and the Thotapalli distributary work should be completed.
