Minister Seethakka says Telangana government taking strict action against sexual crimes

The Telangana government is taking strict action against sexual crimes, said State Women and Child Welfare Minister Seethakka. She said that steps are being taken to arrest the accused within hours and ensure strict punishment.

Participating as the chief guest in the program of legal experts, Supreme Court and High Court judges, registrars and senior police officers on Saturday on the topic of ‘Protection of Children from Sexual Crimes’ at the MCRHRD, she expressed concern that sexual crimes are increasing in the country despite all the measures taken.

Seethakka said that as soon as a report related to sexual assault is received, they are responding immediately and standing by the victims. She said that the accused were immediately arrested and legal action was taken, and in 90 percent of the cases, the accused were given strict imprisonment.

She said that the government itself will provide all kinds of assistance and cooperation to the victims in ‘POCSO’ cases, instead of roaming around the offices, and that arrangements are being made to provide compensation to them through the green channel.

Minister Seethakka said that the police investigation revealed that most of the attacks are due to marijuana and that is why the Telangana government led by Revanth Reddy is taking strict measures to curb marijuana. She said that a special narcotics department has been set up in the police department. The use and transportation of marijuana is being suppressed, she added.

She also said that they have decided to create awareness about good touch and bad touch among children from a young age. She said that children, teenage girls and adolescent girls will be made aware of this through Anganwadi centers and with the help of women’s self-help groups. She said that they are preparing a women’s army and making them vigilant against harassment and attacks in villages.

The Minister said that they are working for women empowerment through a policy called Indira Mahila Shakti. Women are being economically and socially strengthened due to Indira Mahila Shakti, she said. She also said that they will consider including the issue of protecting children and women as an agenda in the Indira Mahila Shakti policy. She said that the government, police and judges need to work together to ensure that the accused are severely punished.
