One of Tollywood’s favorite detective thrillers, Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya, is back in the limelight — this time for a possible sequel. The sleeper hit that catapulted Naveen Polishetty from a debutante to a bankable star, the film won hearts and minds of both the masses and the critics.
Swaroop RSJ-directed film was known for its witty script, emotional moments, and balanced humor. Shruti Sharma portrayed the female protagonist and was appreciated for her performance alongside Naveen. Not only did the film excel in India but also gained attention from audiences abroad, particularly in the US.
And now, with sequels a dime a dozen for hit Telugu movies, a sequel to Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya is gaining traction. Close sources to the film indicate that the team has already finalized a concept for Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya 2, and the script is in the making. Naveen Polishetty, who has gained a robust fan following among young audiences, is reportedly said to have approved the project and will presumably come back in the lead role.
Although an official confirmation is yet to come, speculation is rife that some of the original cast will make a return. The second installment is believed to be mounted on a much higher budget, with the producers planning to expand the story while keeping the charm and wit that made the first part successful.
The emphasis this time will be towards presenting a youth-oriented investigative thriller that weaves suspense and entertainment together — a formula which clicked wonderfully in the original.
Meanwhile, Naveen Polishetty is preparing for the release of his new film, Anaganaga Oka Raju, from the Sithara Entertainments. With Meenakshi Chaudhary playing the female lead, the movie will release on the screens later this year.
With the hype for Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya 2 still on the rise, fans are waiting with bated breath for an official announcement. If the sequel goes ahead, it will be expected to register healthy pre-release business and make plenty of noise in the marketplace, and producers are likely to go all out in terms of production standards and promotion.
