Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming pan-India film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is nearing its release with filming now complete. The project, one of the most anticipated in Kollywood, has retained the title Coolie across all major South Indian languages. However, reports from Tamil film circles indicate that the Hindi version will be released under a new title — Mazdoor.
The change has quickly gone viral, sparking mixed reactions among fans and cinephiles. While Coolie has become a familiar title during the film’s promotional phase, some Hindi-speaking audiences feel that the revised title Mazdoor does not carry the same impact.
Social media users have suggested that retaining the original title in Hindi or opting for a variation like Rajini Coolie might have better resonated with the audience. The title shift appears to have caused some disappointment among fans who had grown attached to the original name.
The film, featuring Rajinikanth in a powerful role, is being produced as a large-scale action entertainer with a star-studded cast and will release in multiple languages across India. An official release date is expected to be announced soon.
