During a visit to Palnadu district, former Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy and others have been booked under sections 105 and 49 of the BNS in the case of a Dalit named Cheeli Singayya (50) under his car, said District Guntur SP Satish Kumar. BNS Section 105 is used for acts that do not fall under murder, such as culpable homicide.
A case is registered under this section when a person causes death. If the crime is proven, the relevant persons can be sentenced to life imprisonment. Apart from that, it is said that depending on the severity of the crime, a jail term of 5 to 10 years and a fine can also be imposed. Most importantly, this is described as a non-bailable section.
On June 18, YSRCP chief Jaganmohan Reddy visited Palnadu district to visit the family of a party activist in Sattenapalli. In that process, a person named Singayya fell under the convoy vehicle in which Jagan was travelling and died. The incident took place at Rentapalla and the police registered a case on the complaint of the deceased’s wife, Lurdhu Mary, and started an investigation.
However, initially, District SP Satish Kumar himself announced that Jagan’s convoy had nothing to do with Singhaiah’s death. He reportedly tried to sideline the case by confirming that Singhaiah died due to being hit by a private vehicle.
But after some videos of the accident went viral on social media, it was revealed that Singhaiah died after falling under the car in which Jagan was travelling. With this, the Guntur district Nallapadu police made changes to the FIR. Jagan’s car driver Ramana Reddy was made responsible for the incident and filed a case as A1.
Jagan, who was travelling in that car, was also included as A2. Personal Secretary K. Nageswara Reddy was included as A3, former MP YV Subbareddy as A4, former minister Perni Nani as A5, and former minister Vidadala Rajini as A6.
Guntur district SP Satish Kumar himself revealed these details to the media. Apart from that, when Jagan left for Sattenapalli from his residence in Tadepalli, the SP said that although permission was given to only three cars for the convoy, the vehicles traveled contrary to the permission.
Even though videos of this incident have surfaced, Jagan and other leaders have not at least expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased, leading to criticism. The party leaders themselves are worried that the image of the YSRCP may be badly damaged by this incident.
