Nagarjuna to Play CBI Officer in Shekhar Kammula’s Kubera

Veteran actor Akkineni Nagarjuna will be seen in the role of a CBI officer in director Shekhar Kammula’s upcoming film Kubera, which also stars Dhanush and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles. The film is scheduled for a global theatrical release on June 20 in five languages—Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. Speaking at a press conference held in Chennai, Nagarjuna shared details about his character, describing it as a layered role with a moral conflict at its core. “I play a middle-class man who works as a CBI officer, caught between doing good and doing wrong. It’s a performance-driven character, and Shekhar has shaped it beautifully,” he said.

Responding to a question about the rise of multi-starrers, Nagarjuna noted that star collaborations are essential for strong storytelling. “In the past, my father ANR, NTR, Krishna, and Sobhan Babu acted together in several films. This tradition of working together should continue,” he added. He also expressed admiration for Shekhar Kammula’s work, highlighting the director’s socially conscious narratives. Produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under the Sri Venkateswara Cinemas banner, Kubera also features Jim Sarbh in a key role. The film marks the first collaboration between Dhanush and Shekhar Kammula. Devi Sri Prasad is composing the music, while Niketh Bommi is handling cinematography. The film has received a U/A certificate from the Censor Board, with a final runtime of 181 minutes.
