The SIT has arrested YSRCP leader and former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy and his childhood friend Venkatesh Naidu, a real estate businessman in Hyderabad, in connection with the liquor scam. When both of them tried to flee to Sri Lanka, they were detained by immigration officials at the Bangalore airport and informed the SIT officials.
Later, the SIT officials went to Bangalore and arrested both of them. The SIT has included Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy as A-38, his son Mohit Reddy as A-39, and Venkatesh Naidu as A-34 in the liquor scam case.
According to SIT, Raj Kasireddy used to transfer the bribe money collected from liquor distilleries and supply companies to Chevireddy six months before the 2024 general elections.
Chevireddy used to send some PAs, gunmen, drivers, other followers and many close friends working for him to various places in Hyderabad and Bangalore to collect this bribe money from Raj Kasireddy’s group. Thus, the bribe money of approximately Rs. 250 crore to Rs. 300 crore reached Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy.
Chevireddy stored the amount at collection points set up in several places, including an apartment near Tadepalli Palace, and distributed it to YSRCP candidates in 5 districts a few days before the general elections. The SIT investigation found that they distributed that money to voters in the elections.
It was found that the Tirupati Urban Development Corporation, of which Chevireddy was the chairman at that time, used TUDA vehicles to collect the bribe money from Raj KC Reddy’s group. It is believed that he also distributed the same cash to voters in Chandragiri. For this, Chevireddy used the then PA, gunmen, drivers and other close associates.
After calling AR Constable Madan Reddy, who worked as a gunman for Chevireddy, for the SIT investigation, Chevireddy came to a decision that he would be arrested at any moment as the SIT officers had collected key evidence regarding his role, was caught at the Bangalore airport while trying to flee abroad.
Meanwhile, on May 9th last year, when the general election code was in force, the police seized Rs. 8.36 crores of property at the Garikapadu check post in Jaggayyapet mandal of NTR district.
The SIT has found in its latest investigation that all that money was from liquor bribes. Raj Kasireddy initially handed over the money from liquor bribes to Venkatesh Naidu, a close aide of Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy. The SIT investigation revealed that he sent the money in a lorry from Hyderabad to the place Chevireddy had mentioned in Guntur.
