Hyderabad: Actor and social activist R. Narayana Murthy has urged the central government to immediately halt ‘Operation Kagar’ and initiate peace talks with Maoist groups. Speaking at a protest held at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park on Tuesday, he criticised the government for labelling individuals who question its policies as Naxalites. “Those who raise their voice for the people are branded as Maoists, while those who remain silent on public issues are not questioned,” he stated.
The protest was organised by Left parties and civil rights organisations. Telangana Jana Samithi president and MLC Prof. Kodandaram, who also addressed the gathering, alleged that tribal communities are being forcibly displaced from forest lands under the guise of the operation. He accused the Centre of attempting to transfer forest resources to corporate entities and called for an immediate end to such violations of tribal rights. Several activists and party leaders participated in the demonstration, demanding protection of tribal livelihoods and a democratic resolution to the conflict.
