Andhra Pradesh will serve as a host for the prestigious ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, with matches scheduled at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, Minister for IT and Human Resources Nara Lokesh announced on Monday. The state will join a select list of Indian venues facilitating the international tournament this year.
Addressing the development, Minister Lokesh described it as a proud and historic moment for Andhra Pradesh’s sporting journey. “Hosting matches featuring the world’s finest women cricketers at an internationally accredited venue like ACA-VDCA Stadium marks a significant milestone in our state’s sporting profile,” he stated.
According to the minister, Visakhapatnam will host a total of five league-stage matches, including two high-profile fixtures featuring the Indian women’s team — against South Africa on October 9 and Australia on October 12. Lokesh emphasised that the event will inspire young girls across the country to dream big and overcome barriers through sport.
Highlighting the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports, Lokesh urged citizens to support Team India and fill the stadium to capacity, projecting Visakhapatnam’s vibrant spirit to the global audience. He also expressed confidence that the successful conduct of these matches would enhance Andhra Pradesh’s international standing and encourage future global sporting events in the state.
The minister concluded by reaffirming that the Andhra Pradesh government will continue to promote sports infrastructure and support athletes, ensuring more such global tournaments find a home in the state.
