The US government has initiated the process of executing a Red Corner Notice against former SIB chief Prabhakar Rao, a key accused in the sensational phone tapping case in Telangana state. The US Homeland Security Agency has taken steps to depart him from the USA to India. The investigation team’s efforts have borne fruit.
Prabhakar Rao has filed a petition to be recognized as a political refugee and not to be sent back to India. Responding to this, the investigation team has sent a report on the phone tapping irregularities without recognizing Prabhakar Rao as a political refugee.
Meanwhile, the Nampally court has already issued orders to Prabhakar Rao to appear before the court by June 20th, failing which he will be declared as a proclaimed offender. With this, a proclaimed offender notice has been issued to him, the key accused in this case. The Nampally court has allowed the petition filed by the SIT seeking to declare Prabhakar Rao a declared offender as he did not appear before the police investigation.
However, on the request of Prabhakar Rao’s lawyer, the court has given a deadline of June 20. The court has made it clear that if Prabhakar Rao does not appear before the investigating officer by June 20, he will be declared as a proclaimed offender. To this end, the SIT officials who went to Prabhakar Rao’s house in Taramati pasted a notice on the wall there.
If Prabhakar Rao does not appear for the investigation within the deadline there is a possibility that the investigating officers will identify him as a declared offender and seize the immovable and movable properties belonging to Prabhakar Rao. Meanwhile, it is known that the High Court has already rejected the petition filed by Prabhakar Rao for grant of anticipatory bail.
The investigating officers have also issued red corner notices through Interpol to extradite Prabhakar Rao from the US. SIT officials stated that Prabhakar Rao must appear for questioning, otherwise they will try to extradite him by talking to US authorities through an Interpol Red Corner Notice.
