Prominent young dalith activist, known for his proactive approach for the enlistment of marginalized sections of society and extensively involved in various mass movements in both the Telugu states P. Chittibabu was honoured with a prestigious award in recolonization of his vigorous services intending to social change.
He was awarded C. Subrahmanyam National Award, instituted in the memory of veteran freedom fighter, member of the Indian Constituent Assembly, founder of the National Foundation for India, former Union Minister and Bharat Ratna recipient C. Subramanyam.
Chittibabu, AP state general secretary of Dalit Bahujan Shramik Union (DBSU) received this award at the Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Chief Information Commissioner Satyanand Mishra., National Foundation for India (NFI) Director Biraj Patnaik, Professor Virginius Kaka, National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights (NCDHR) National General Secretary, Beena Pallikal, Nakdor National President Ashok Bharti and various intellectuals and dignitaries from various fields participated in the National Awards ceremony.
Chief Information Commissioner Satyananda Mishra, who participated as the chief guest, said that public awareness leads to social change, and the National Foundation India recognizes individuals and organizations working for social change and presents them with national awards.
This year, 14 individuals who are constantly working for the self-respect of citizens and social justice in many ways, including Dalits, Adivasis, women, children and working classes, have been recognized, and their efforts cannot be valued with this award, and their efforts are commendable.
Chittibabu, expressing his happiness for choosing him for this coveted award, said that he was very happy to get the opportunity to receive the C Subrahmanyam National Award in the selection held across the country, and that the responsibility has increased for him. He expressed special thanks to the leading lights of the National Foundation India for recognizing his mission and activities.
Chittibabu has been associated with several national and regional human rights, public awareness and mass movements. He particularly releases reports every year on how union and state budgets make allocations for dalits and adivasis welfare and how far government spending allocated amounts for them. He has been exposing that mostly, the governments by making huge allocations for these sections in the budgets, diverting most of funds for general purposes.
