CM Chandrababu Asks Amit Shah To Amend AP Reorganization Act, Declare Amaravati as Capital

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has revealed that he has asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to amend the AP Reorganization Act to declare Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh and notify it. He said that the construction of Amaravati will be completed in three years and the development of the capital is a continuous process.

After meeting union ministers Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, CR Patil and others in New Delhi, he said that the Polavaram project is being built on a war footing and will be completed by March 2027. He said that there will be no compromise on quality and speed.

He recalled that the Act states that Hyderabad will continue as the joint capital for ten years. Since the deadline has now been completed, he said he explained to Amit Shah the need to declare Amaravati as the capital. He said that there are possibilities of amending the law in the next Parliament session itself.

Chandrababu said that he reviewed the law and security situation with the Home Minister. In response to a question, he said that he also discussed the Jaganmohan Reddy’s liquor scam as usual. While mentioning that Jaganmohan Reddy is claiming that innocent people have been arrested in the liquor scam, he said that the investigation is going on and the culprits are being identified.

He said that he discussed the newly passed criminal law laws with Amit Shah. Chandrababu said that he has brought all the financial problems of the state to the attention of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He said that he has requested for funds to be given for economic recovery and release of dues.  He has appealed for financial assistance to Polavaram- Banakacharla project.

The CM asked the Union Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh to appoint former ISRO Chairman Somnath as the space technology advisor to the state. He said that this appointment will help the state compete at the international level.

Earlier, CM Chandrababu met Union Water Resources Minister CR Patil and presented the proposal for the Polavaram-Banakacherla connection project involving 200 TMC water. He clarified that the Polavaram work is being done on a fast track and that the entire rehabilitation cost should be provided by the Centre.
