In a welcome change, veteran superstars of Indian cinema are accepting the new wave by joining hands with young, enterprising directors. While Telugu legend Chiranjeevi has already paved the way for new-generation directors, Tamil cinema giant Rajinikanth is now doing the same—testifying that age is merely a number when it comes to imagination and pertinence.
Currently, Rajinikanth is occupied with Coolie, a pan-India high-octane action drama directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The movie is being produced on a big scale with an exceptional star cast and is ready for a huge release on August 14, 2025. Hype for Coolie is through the roof, with fans waiting impatiently for Rajinikanth’s dominating return in an action hero avatar.
Following Coolie, Rajinikanth is set to return in Jailer 2, the sequel to his 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The sequel is being produced by Sun Pictures under the supervision of renowned producer Kalanithi Maran. The film features a strong lineup, including SJ Suryah in a negative role, Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar, and Telugu mass hero Nandamuri Balakrishna, who is expected to shoot for about 20 days.
Adding to the excitement, Rajinikanth has reportedly greenlit another exciting project with young and promising Telugu director Vivek Athreya. After scoring a success with Saripodhaa Sanivaaram starring Nani, Vivek Athreya narrated a script to the superstar—and the story instantly won Rajinikanth’s approval.
This new project is also expected to be supported by Mythri Movie Makers, the production company famous for serving blockbuster hits in the South. After recently working with Ajith Kumar on Good Bad Ugly, Mythri is now setting its eyes on the possibility of a project with Rajinikanth—an initiative that’s creating huge waves in Tollywood and Kollywood circles alike.
An official statement about this much-hyped collaboration is due to drop imminently, and fans are already excited about what this new combination might have in store for us on the big screen.
