In a big setback to the former chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, the AP government has cracked down on YSRCP Mayor Suresh of Kadapa and Macherla Municipal Chairman Turaka Kishore for corruption and abuse of power. Both have been removed from their posts. Orders have been issued to this effect.
The government has dismissed Kadapa Mayor Suresh Babu, who has been facing corruption allegations for some time. The Principal Secretary of the Municipal Department has issued orders removing him from the post. The investigation revealed that Mayor Suresh Babu had undertaken several works in Kadapa in the name of Vardhini Construction, which is in the name of family members.
There are allegations against Suresh Babu that he has committed corruption of Rs. 36 lakh. Suresh Babu appeared for an inquiry before the Principal Secretary of the Municipal Department in Vijayawada on Tuesday and also gave an explanation. The government has recently issued orders removing him from the post.
The order clearly states that the removal of Mayor Suresh Babu from the post will come into effect 2 weeks after the notification was issued. The government, which conducted a vigilance inquiry based on the complaint of Kadapa MLA Madhavi Reddy, issued orders removing Suresh from the post.
Meanwhile, the state government has also sacked Macherla Municipal Chairman Turaka Kishore. Officials have concluded that he has been involved in abuse of office. The Principal Secretary of the Municipal Department has issued an order removing Kishore from the post as he has been absent from council meetings since August 2023.
Since August 2023, Turaka Kishore has been absent from 15 consecutive council meetings without permission. He was removed from the post for this reason. Kishore went to jail in an attempted murder case after the coalition government came to power. Even if Kishore is removed from the post, there is no possibility of holding a full-fledged chairman election.
Therefore, the Municipal Administration Department’s Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar has issued orders removing Kishore from his post for not attending the council meetings as per the rules. Now, there is a legal opportunity to hold the election of the chairman.
