Telangana has asked the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to provide 10.26 TMC from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar for its drinking water needs till the end of July. The board’s three-member committee meeting was held at the Hyderabad Waterworks.
AP ENC Venkateswara Rao did not attend the meeting. He wrote a letter to the KRMB stating that he would not be able to attend today’s three-member committee meeting while experts were examining the Polavaram project. The AP ENC has requested that the three-member committee meeting be convened after the 10th and that Krishna Board meetings be held in Vijayawada from now on.
KRMB member secretary Raipure and Telangana ESC Anil Kumar participated in the meeting held at the Hyderabad Waterworks. Telangana has already informed the board that it wants 16 TMC from Srisailam and Sagar till the end of July, and AP has already informed the board that it wants 10 TMC from the Sagar right canal till the end of May.
In the meeting, Telangana ENC requested 10.26 TMC for 88 days of drinking water till the end of July. Details were submitted that 300 cusecs should be provided from Kalwakurthy lift irrigation for the drinking water needs of the joint Mahabubnagar district, 750 cusecs from AMRP for Hyderabad and Nalgonda needs, and 300 cusecs from Sagar for Khammam needs.
Telangana ENC said that if they get 10.26 TMC and 4.28 TMC of steam losses, 0.55 TMC will be left out of the current 15 TMC. Anil Kumar said that the minimum level in Sagar should be kept up to 510 feet. Telangana ENC stated that it had earlier said that pumping below 510 is not appropriate and that AP’s consumption should be reduced.
Telangana’s views have been taken in writing by the Krishna River Management Board. Telangana ENC has requested that water not be taken from Sagar Right Canal Regulator and Muchumarri until orders are received from the KRMB regarding the release of water.
