In a significant development, TDP and its allies have bagged Mayor posts in two major municipal corporations in the state. They are Visakhapatnam and Guntur. Earlier, they were held by YSRCP candidates, who were unseated recently through no-confidence motions.
Likewise, TDP also bagged Municipal Chairperson posts in Kuppam and Tuni. TDP candidate Pila Srinivasa Rao was elected as the Mayor of Visakhapatnam Metropolitan City Corporation (GVMC). The GVMC governing body meeting was held on Monday, chaired by District Joint Collector Mayur Ashok.
The Joint Collector announced that the alliance candidate and TDP corporator Pila Srinivasa Rao was elected as the Mayor of GVMC and handed over a certificate to him. When the elections were held for the Maha Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation in 2021, the high command announced the name of Pila Srinivasa Rao as the TDP candidate.
At that time, Pila Srinivasa Rao did not get the post due to lack of majority. In addition to his efforts to strengthen the party for four years, the party high command has once again given Pila Srinivasa Rao, who fought against the anti-people policies of the YSRCP, another opportunity.
Meanwhile, TDP candidate Kovelamudi Ravindra was elected as the mayor of Guntur Municipal Corporation. Ravindra, who strengthened the alliance, got 34 votes, and Venkata Reddy, who was supported by the YSRCP, got 27 votes. With this, the presiding officer Bhargav Teja announced that the alliance candidate had won the mayoral election.
Kuppam Municipality Chairman post also goes to TDP. In the election for the chairman of Kuppam Municipality in Chittoor district the TDP proposed 5th ward councilor Selvaraj as its candidate, while YSRCP fielded 9th ward member S D Hafeez. TDP candidate Selvaraj got 15 votes, while YSRCP candidate Hafeez got 9 votes. With this, the election presiding officer Srinivasa Raju confirmed Selvaraj’s victory. TDP workers celebrated in Kuppam.
Moreover, TDP has won the posts of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of Tuni Municipality in Kakinada district. The members unanimously elected Narla Bhuvana Sundari as Chairperson and Achanta Suresh as Vice-Chairperson. YSRCP councilors were absent for this election.
TDP also won the post of Vice-Chairperson of Macherla Municipality in Palnadu district. Akula Malleswari was elected as Chairperson of Palakonda Nagara Panchayat in Parvathypuram Manyam district. Malleswari, who was previously elected as a ward member from YSRCP, joined TDP after the general elections.
Akula Malleswari has now filed her nomination as an independent candidate. Four alliance members attended the election, while YSRCP members were absent. Special Election Officer Shobika Malleswari was announced as the chairperson.
