IAS Smita Sabharwal Questions police Notice on Her post on HCU Lands, Asks Is police Targeting selectively?

It is known that the Kancha Gachibowli land issue is currently causing a huge political stir in Telangana state. Many celebrities and government officials, including opposition parties, are criticizing the government’s approach in this matter.

Senior IAS officer Smita Sabharwal, who is state tourism secretary, responding to a notice issued by the Telangana police, wondered if law is equal to all? Moreover, she asked whether police are targeting selectively? The state government seems to be pushed into defence with her aggressive social media post.

Smita Sabharwal clarified on the X platform that she fully cooperated with the police and explained the questions asked by the police as a law-abiding person. She said that she explained the questions asked by the police as a law-abiding person.

However, she posted on the X platform stating that over 2,000 people shared the AI-generated photo in the Kancha lands case as she reposted it. Will such action be taken against all of them? Is the law the same for everyone? Are only the selected ones being targeted?, she asked.

Smita Sabharwal said that she is seeking clarity on whether action will be taken against the rest as she was given notice. Earlier, the police found fault with her when she retweeted a Ghibli-style image posted on March 31 from the Twitter handle ‘Hi Hyderabad’ regarding the Kancha Gachibowli lands.

She said that Save Hyderabad, Save HCU Biodiversity. In that post, a large number of bulldozers are deployed in front of Mushroom Rock, and there are peacocks and deer in front of the bulldozers.  The police, who investigated this, have filed charges saying that it is a fake photo.

To this extent, the police have sent notices to Smita Sabharwal under Section 179 of the IPC. On the 12th of this month, the Gachibowli police issued notices to her asking her to give an explanation for this. They have asked her to explain the reasons for reposting the photo on X and why she had to do so. The police, who have already issued notices to several people in this matter, are calling them for an investigation.
