Amaravati: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has informed the 16th Finance Commission that an additional Rs. 47,000 crores are required for the development of Amaravati, the proposed capital city of Andhra Pradesh. In his address, the CM highlighted that the total funding required for infrastructure and development programs in the capital is Rs. 77,249 crores. However, Rs. 31,000 crores has already been secured through funding from the World Bank, HUDCO, and KfW Development Bank, leaving a shortfall of Rs. 47,000 crores.
The key development priorities for the state include:
1. Polavaram-Banakacharla connectivity
2. Drinking water projects
3. Establishment of five tourism hubs in Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, Araku, Tirupati, and Rajamahendravaram, along with the development of an incubation center at IIT Tirupati, a Buddhist circuit, a national museum in Amaravati, and a world-class convention center in Visakhapatnam
4. Quantum Valley project, skill development initiatives, the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub, and the goal of achieving 100% literacy
5. Infrastructure development, including ports, fishing harbors, multi-modal logistics parks, greenfield airports, inland waterways, and roads
6. Regional growth centers in Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati
The Chief Minister has urged the Finance Commission to recommend grants to the state government for the successful execution of these high-priority projects.
