Amaravati Capital Project to Resume: PM Modi to Lay Foundation Stone on May 2

In a historic turn for Andhra Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to visit Amaravati on May 2 to re-launch the long-held capital city project, which was stalled for quite some years now. The visit is being described as a very important milestone for the state in its efforts towards creating a contemporary, world-class capital.

The visit, which was earlier confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), had been much in anticipation for quite some time from both the Andhra Pradesh people and state administration. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, in a cabinet meeting recently, made the dashing announcement stating that elaborate plans are already under way to take the event a grand success.

Though initially scheduled in April, the visit of the Prime Minister was postponed because he had prior overseas commitments. Yet, realizing the importance of reviving the Amaravati project, the PMO acted quickly to arrange a new date and ensure that the revival of the capital city receives priority in the central government.

The Amaravati capital development process has been going since 2015 when the development process started while the TDP government was ruling, and then Prime Minister Modi himself laid its foundation stone. But once the YSRCP came to the power in the year 2019, work stopped completely and raised debates on the future of the capital.

Now, after the recent electoral success of the TDP-alliance, the Amaravati dream is being rekindled. Some of the earlier stalled projects are already underway, and the visit soon will signal the formal resumption of major development in the area.

The government of the state is scheduled to hold a grand celebration of the relaunch, celebrating not only the dreams for a successful capital but also of the state dedicated to its progress. The ceremony on May 2, being attended by Prime Minister Modi, promises to be an epochal moment, a new start symbolized and rededicated with focus towards growth of Andhra Pradesh.

For Andhra Pradesh people, this is a new page, one that is full of hope and a shared vision for a bright future.
