The behavior of Aluru YCP MLA Virupakshi of Kurnool district during Sri Rama Navami celebrations has become controversial. MLA Virupakshi himself tied the `mangal sutra’ that Vedic scholars were supposed to tie around the neck of Goddess Sitamma during the Sita Rami Kalyanam held in the MLA’s hometown Chippagiri.
The videos related to this went viral attracting ire and protests from Hindus. They demanded that the MLA immediately apologize. They questioned how he could do this in a way that was not done according to tradition. MLA Virupaksha responded to this after receiving severe criticism and extended his apology through the media.
He said that he did it unknowingly, and that he did it according to the scholars’ advice, and did not do it intentionally. He said that he had come to the temple as an ordinary devotee and that he had put the mangalsutra around the neck of Seetharama as per the instructions of the scholars while the marriage of Sitarama was taking place.
A video was released of the MLA apologizing while admitting that it was wrong to do so. This calmed down the representatives of Hindu religious organizations. They wanted to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future.
On the occasion of Sri Ramanavami, the marriage of Ram was held grandly at the Anjaneya Swamy temple in Kondaveedu, Chippagiri, Virupakshi’s hometown on Sunday night. Virupakshi attended the ceremony as the chief guest in his capacity as MLA.
As part of the program, Vedic scholars gave Virupakshi a mangalsutra and he tied it around the neck of Seetharama. The video of this incident went viral on social media on Monday. Several Hindu groups expressed their anger over how Virupakshi could tie the tali that Vedic scholars should tie around Seethamma’s neck.
When the video went viral on social media, MLA Virupakshi realized his mistake. He immediately released a video apologizing. In the video, Virupakshi said that he had made a mistake, regretted the mistake, and apologize if this incident had hurt anyone.
