Telangana Irrigation Minister Captain N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the state government will provide full support to the team of lawyers who are arguing on behalf of Telangana before the Krishna Tribunal-2 on the injustice being done to Telangana state in the matter of Krishna river reservoirs.
He held a special review meeting with a group of representatives of irrigation officials and lawyers at the Irrigation Department office Jalasoudha on Sunday. State government’s Irrigation Advisor Adityanath Das, Engineering in Chief (ENC) Anil Kumar, Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, senior lawyer C.S. Vaidyanathan and others attended the meeting.
He said that the state government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will move forward with special action to resolve inter-state water disputes. They reviewed the arguments held so far before the Krishna Tribunal-2. Also the issues to be raised on behalf of the Telangana government during the arguments before the tribunal on April 15 and 16 of this month were discussed in detail and a pre-emptive strategy was formulated in this meeting.
The AP government’s stance on Krishna river waters after the re-division of Andhra Pradesh and the allocation of water that should be legally allocated to Telangana were explained to the officials and lawyers by Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy. The Minister guided them to present strong arguments on the allocation of Krishna river water that should be legally allocated to the state.
The Minister deplored that the farmers, who have been depending on irrigation water for decades, are worried about water shortage and that his government is giving priority to protecting their fair rights by confronting the injustices being committed by the AP government.
Minister Uttam instructed the senior officials of the Irrigation Department to provide the necessary comprehensive information during the arguments before the Krishna Tribunal-2 and to coordinate with the legal team in Delhi and update them from time to time. He advised them to keep him informed of the current status of the cases and appeals pending in various courts of the state.
