The Supreme Court on Thursday again heard the MLAs’ party-defection’s case and warned that Chief MInister Revanth Reddy’s comments in the assembly on this cause would have to be taken as contempt of court. Justice Gavai commented that they are exercising restraint and that the other two systems should be treated with the same respect.
The lawyer for the Speaker’s secretary stated that if the complaint was filed with the Speaker, they would have tried to bring extreme pressure with court cases. Justice Gavai reminded that if the single judge’s instructions were followed, the case would not have come this far. He recalled that notices were issued only after a petition was filed in the Supreme Court.
The two-judge bench, which heard the petitions filed by BRS MLAs KTR and Padi Kaushik Reddy in the Supreme Court on Wednesday and Thursday, regarding the disqualification of those who joined the Congress after winning as BRS party MLAs, reserved the final verdict.
On this occasion, the lawyer representing Kaushik Reddy once again mentioned the comments made by CM Revanth Reddy in the Assembly before the bench. Lawyer Sundaram said that he thought that if he spoke in the Assembly, he would be protected from any court. Can’t the CM at least exercise self-control? How can he act like this even after something terrible happened in the past?Justice Gavai questioned Singhvi.
While Singhvi said that there were more provocative comments from the opposition, the bench set them aside saying that they were irrelevant now. Senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued on behalf of the Speaker’s Secretary before the bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih.
He said that there have been no judgments so far on imposing a time limit on the Speaker’s decision. He said that the Manipur matter is completely different and that one thing should be considered separately. Singhvi said that the Rana case is completely separate and not relevant to the current issue.
However, Justice BR Gavai responded by mentioning that he had interfered in the Rana case and imposed disqualification. Justice BR Gavai asked Singhvi what he meant by ‘reasonable time’? Justice Gavai commented that the attitude of lawyers will completely change after coming to the Supreme Court.
