The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has suffered another big setback with the resignation of another senior leader and MLC Marri Rajasekhar from the party. It may be recalled that already four MLCs have resigned from the party so far. Potula Sunitha, Balli Kalyana Chakravarthy, Karri Padmasree, and Jayamangala Venkataramana have resigned from the party.
Now with the latest resignation of Marri Rajasekhar, the number of dissatisfied MLCs of YCP has reached five. Marri Rajasekhar is the son-in-law of veteran Congress leader from Chilukaluripet of Palnadu district and three-time MLA Somepalli Sambaiah, a staunch supporter of YS Rajasekhar Reddy.
After him, the two-time MLA Rajasekhar also sailed with the YS family and associated with YS Jaganmohan Reddy from the time he started YSRCP. But, he was denied Chilakaluripet seat in the 2019 election and fielded a new-comer Vidadala Rajini, who joined the party just before elections.
Later she was also inducted into the cabinet. During 2019 elections, Jaganmohan Reddy himself promised in an election rally that soon after formation of his government Rajasekhar will be inducted into his cabinet, by offering him an MLC seat.
Though he helped her to win the seat, after the formation of the government Rajini attempted to marginalize Rajasekhar in the constituency. Realizing that without him it would be difficult for the YSRCP to survive in Chilakaluripet he was nominated as MLC from the Governor’s quota.
As Rajini became unpopular and found it would be difficult to win again from there, she was shifted to Guntur in 2024.
Although he was expecting a Chilakaluripet ticket in the 2024 elections, Marri was disappointed once again, and since then it seems that he has been deeply unhappy.
He was shocked that even after her defeat from Guntur, Rajini was brought back as Chilukaluripet in-charge and became more impatient.
In this context, while there were reports that Marri Rajasekhar would change the party, now he was forced to quit from the party. Meanwhile, Jaganmohan Reddy, who suffered a heavy defeat in the AP Assembly elections, even before he can recover from that shock, shocks continue to pile up.
It is not known whether Jagan’s attitude is disliked or they cannot fit in the party, but one by one, leaders known for their loyalty towards Jagan are leaving the party. Even the top leaders of the party have said goodbye to Jagan and the party.
While some leaders are resigning from the party and looking to jump into other parties, others are remaining silent after resigning from the YSRCP. Some others in the party are keeping away from regular activities of the party.
It is also known that most of the leaders who were active in the previous government suddenly became silent after the defeat. Now, the MLCs of that party are leaving the party one by one.
