The Arya Vaishya Association has raised objections to the removal of Potti Sriramulu’s name and met Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar to express their discontent.
Marking Potti Sriramulu’s birth anniversary, Bandi Sanjay paid floral tributes to his statue in Karimnagar. Speaking on the occasion, he described Potti Sriramulu as a great patriot and freedom fighter who sacrificed his life through a hunger strike for the formation of Andhra Pradesh.
“Potti Sriramulu is not just a martyr but a true follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He participated in the Salt Satyagraha in 1930 and faced imprisonment three times during the Satyagraha and Quit India movements. He also fought for the upliftment of the Harijans and promoted the charkha,” Bandi Sanjay stated.
Criticizing the Congress government, Bandi Sanjay alleged that the party has a history of insulting great leaders. “In the past, they humiliated Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Now, they are disrespecting Potti Sriramulu by removing his name, citing his Andhra roots. If they have the courage, let them remove NTR’s name from NTR Park or erase the names of Kasu Brahmananda Reddy and Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy from public parks. Can they also remove the name of Kotla Vijayabhaskar from the stadium or the statues of Andhra leaders on Tank Bund?” he questioned.
The Arya Vaishya Association demanded that the Congress government restore Potti Sriramulu’s name to Telugu University and urged Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to apologize to the Arya Vaishya community and patriots.
