Guntur City Corporation Mayor and YSRCP leader Kavati Manohar Naidu resigned on Saturday, fearing a no-confidence motion may be moved against him by TDP and Jana Sena. He was elected as the mayor from the YSRCP in 2021, resigned from the post of mayor with one more year left in his term.
There has been a dispute between City Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu and Mayor Manohar for some time now. On the other hand, in the Guntur Municipal Corporation Standing Committee elections held in February, TDP and Janasena corporators won all the six seats. Since the corporators from the YSRCP joined the coalition parties, the candidates of that party were bound to lose.
With this, the standing committee meeting will be held on the 17th of this month. In this context, there is a possibility of a no-confidence motion being moved against Mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu. It is in this context that Kavati resigned with one more year left in his term.
Meanwhile, the coalition won 6 seats in the recently held Standing Committee elections. Later, Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar convened a meeting to congratulate those who won the standing committee elections. On this occasion, the mayor’s seat was mentioned.
Pemmasani revealed in the meeting that it was his personal opinion that Kovelamudi Ravindra, who is currently the TDP party leader, would be the mayor. However, some TDP corporators expressed dissatisfaction over Pemmasani’s sudden mention of the mayor.
It is reported that some others walked out of the meeting. The corporators said that they would support whoever the high command announces as the mayor. In the standing committee elections, the TDP and Jana Sena have received the support of 31 members.
An official announcement on the mayor’s post may be made soon from the high command. Along with the mayor, the alliance is also likely to win the two deputy mayor posts. Sajila, who was the deputy mayor, joined TDP before the last year’s elections. Even if she is continued, there will be another deputy mayor seat. It is possible that Jana Sena will get it.
Kovelamudi Ravindra was hoping for the Guntur West seat in the general elections. However, as part of social mobilization, that seat went to Galla Madhavi. With this, he hopes that the mayor’s post will go to him.
