The YCP has suffered an irreparable blow in the MLC elections. The ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh is resounding with victory. The ‘coalition’ is set to hoist the victory flag in the MLC elections for graduates in Krishna-Guntur and joint Godavari districts.
TDP candidate and former minister Alapathi Rajendra Prasad, who contested from Krishna-Guntur, has won with an incredible majority. He won by a majority of 82,319 votes over his opponent. Total votes cast were 2,41,544. Invalid votes were 26, 676. Alliance candidate Alapati Raja got 1,45, 057 votes, while rival PDF candidate K Lakshmana Rao got 62,737 votes.
Alapati Raja won with a majority of 82,319 votes. With this, alliance workers are celebrating. He has been riding high with an unexpected majority since the beginning of counting. His majority is increasing round by round. He is on the way to a ‘record victory’ with the first priority votes alone.
KS Lakshmana Rao, who has won as an MLC three times and has entered the ‘Krishna-Guntur’ arena once again as a strong candidate, faced a crushing defeat. Analysts say that his closeness to former chief minister Jaganmohan Reddy and the indirect support of the YSRCP have created a negative environment for this Left candidate.
Similarly, TDP candidate Pera Baththula Rajasekhar is also leading in the combined Godavari district seat. Counting is ongoing at Eluru CRR Engineering College. In the first round, alliance candidate Didla Veeraraghavula got 5,815 votes, and another independent candidate GV Sundar got 1,968 votes. In the first round, 2,416 invalid votes were invalidated.
A total of 2,18,902 votes were polled in the MLC elections for graduates in both Godavari districts. The results will be announced in a total of 8 rounds. Meanwhile, PRTU candidate Srinivasulu Naidu won the North ANdhra Teachers MLC seat among the two candidates who declared their support for the ‘coalition’. APTF leader Raghu Varma came in second place and UTF candidate Vijaya Gouri, who declared the indirect support of YSRCP, was confined to third place.
