Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute in Hyderabad has decided to increase its focus on conducting advanced cancer research as part of its activities. It has decided to expand its research wing Indo American Cancer Research Organisation (IACRO) by setting up an ultra-modern cancer research center. As part of the plan, it is planning to establish a new research facility that includes advanced equipment.
In order to make it happen, Dr Raghavendra Rao and Smt Kalyani, a NRI couple residing in the USA have decided to donate Rs. 10 Crore to the IACRO to purchase the latest equipment needed to conduct research, recruit staff members. Further IACRO has decided to name its new research center in the name of Smt Kalyani Prasad.
The Couple has handed over the first installment of donation Rs 5 crore to Nandamuri Balakrishna, Chairman of the institute on Shivaratri day.While revealing that the way Smt Kalyani won her fight against cancer, Balakrishna hoped that the donation provided by them will become beacon of light for those fighting with cancer in future.
He expressed confidence that the donation made by Dr Raghavendra Prasad and Smt Kalyani will surely inspire several other donors to support research on basic science. He expressed confidence that the new research center named as Smt Kalyani Prasad Cancer Research Centre will become a leading cancer research centre in the nation.
Smt Kalyani has thanked the doctors who worked relentlessly to provide relief to those fighting with the cancer and thanked them for allowing her to lead a normal life. She hoped that the research conducted on cancer will help more in future in providing best possible treatment to cancer patients.
Dr Raghavendra Prasad urged people to understand that the amount spent on research is not expenditure and it can be profitable once its results start benefiting the people. He hoped that a new cancer centre coming up in BIACH&RI will bring new hope to lacs of cancer patients in the nation. He added that this donation is given by taking inspiration from several other fellow NRIs, who relentlessly worked to set up BIACH&RI since its inception.
