Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has assured that he will always stand by the side of farmers whenever they are in crisis and there is no need for them to worry. During his Delhi visit, he said that he had brought the problems of the farmers in the state to the attention of the Center and some proposals have been placed before the Center in that order. He said that he would review this issue and say what the matter is on Friday.
He said that he had requested the Center to do justice to the farmers and explained that chilli is being cultivated in 5 lakh acres in AP, but prices have fallen this year to an unprecedented level. He expressed his concern that farmers will suffer losses due to reduced demand. He recalled on this occasion that he had requested the Union Minister to support the farmers.
He also said that he had requested the Center to encourage chilli exports. He said that he was thinking about stabilizing prices. He explained that he was in consultation with the Union Commerce Department for this. But, he deplored that there were some problems in the procurement process of the government.
The Chief Minister assured that all steps would be taken to ensure that farmers do not suffer losses. Chandrababu also met with the Secretary of the Union Agriculture Department and explained to him about the problems of AP chilli farmers.
Chandrababu said that they are working to complete the Polavaram project by 2027 and sought the Center’s cooperation for the construction of the Banakacharla project as well. As part of that, he said that he had discussed it with Union Minister CR Patil. He also said that he had spoken about the Polavaram project as well as the Jal Jeevan Mission.
On this occasion, CM Chandrababu criticized the previous YSRCP government for not using the Jal Jeevan Mission properly. He said that due to the policies of the previous government only Rs. 27,000 crores are coming under the Jal Jeevan Mission, but another Rs. 54,000 crores are needed.
