YSRCP chief and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has slammed the TDP coalition government on the arrest of former MLA for Gannavaram Vallabhaneni Vamsi. Jagan claimed that the government is indulging in blatant misuse of power by pushing constitutional standards aside and fuelling a political climate of repression.
In a scathing attack, Jagan alleged that the government is imposing a made-up “Red Book” regulation to cover up illegal arrests, thus weakening democracy and the judiciary. He vehemently criticized the handling of Vamsi, terming it an open case of political bias.
Referring to the Gannavaram case, Jagan brought to light how a Dalit youth had come forward in court and testified that he was forced by TDP leaders to make a false report. Even when such testimony has come out, Jagan charged that the government is trying to twist the case to its agenda. He questioned whether legal systems are being politicized as tools for political retribution, labeling such an exercise as undemocratic and detrimental to the state’s administration.
Jagan also spoke about the case against ex-Denduluru MLA Kotharu Abbayya Chowdary, terming it another instance of political harassment. He condemned the ruling party for imposing an SC/ST case on Chowdary while ignoring a video that went viral in which a TDP MLA was seen abusing Chowdary’s driver verbally. He asked why the real perpetrator was not acted upon, blaming the government for protecting its own but persecuting opposition leaders.
Further escalating his criticism of Chandrababu Naidu, Jagan said the present government has not been able to fulfill its key poll promises, such as the highly-touted “Super Six” schemes. He charged that, finding it impossible to keep its promises, the government is resorting to fake cases and illegal detentions to distract the people.
