Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has presented reports of caste census and also on SC classification in the special session of the assembly on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, the state cabinet met and approved these two reports and decided to forward them to the Central government, after adopting in the state assembly seeking suitable constitutional amendments.
Speaking in the Assembly, the CM said that the government had decided in February 2024 to conduct a comprehensive house-to-house caste survey of the social, economic, employment, education and caste survey report. He said that the survey was conducted for 50 days from November 9.
It was revealed that a survey of 1.12 crore families was conducted in Telangana. While the survey was conducted in 45.15 lakh families in cities, the survey was conducted in 66.39 lakh families in villages. The CM said that the caste survey data will be used for preparing welfare policies and Rs. 161 crore was spent on the survey for this.
Revanth Reddy said that it will serve as a model document. He said that it was introduced in the House after the Cabinet approval to provide full legality. He said that the survey work should be done to provide educational, employment, and political opportunities. He said that the enumerators have collected details in every village and in the camps.
He said that every 150 houses were identified as a unit and enumerators were assigned to collect the details and 76,000 data entry operators worked hard for 36 days to prepare this report. He said that this decision was taken to provide due respect to the BCs who constitute 56 percent.
Earlier, speaking to the media, CM Revanth Reddy said that in the history of the country, the caste census conducted in Telangana state is the official survey and that it is a role model for the country. In the upcoming Panchayat elections, he said that seats will be given based on caste census and the BC Commission will be responsible for officially implementing the caste census.
He said that with the successful completion of the caste census in Telangana, pressure will increase on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct a caste census across the country.
