Harish Kumar Gupta officially assumed charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh on Friday. Accompanied by his family, he formally took over responsibilities at the police headquarters. Senior officials extended their best wishes to the newly appointed DGP.
Following the formation of the coalition government, senior IPS officer Dwaraka Tirumala Rao was appointed as the DGP. With his tenure concluding today, the police department accorded him a formal farewell.
He emphasized that offensive social media posts have evolved into a systematic crime, asserting that stringent action will be taken against such violations. Addressing the media after assuming charge, he stated that cybercrime prevention would be a key priority. He also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Chandrababu for the opportunity and assured the police department’s commitment to achieving the CM’s Vision 2047 objectives.
The DGP highlighted several key decisions implemented in the police department over the past seven months. He underscored the importance of installing and effectively utilizing CCTV cameras, integrating them with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS), and leveraging facial recognition technology for rapid suspect identification. Plans are underway to establish cybercrime police stations in every district to strengthen digital policing.
Additionally, he reaffirmed his commitment to improving infrastructure and welfare initiatives for police personnel, emphasizing that a healthy and well-equipped force is essential for delivering effective law enforcement services.
