Nandigama Suresh Granted Bail After Months in Jail

Former YSRCP MP Nandigama Suresh is finally released after a long, grueling judicial battle. His release was confirmed by the Guntur Court that had been imprisoning him for months. Earlier, Suresh had applied for bail before the Supreme Court, but he was rejected when the court had decided not to intervene. Defiant, Suresh had sought bail in the lower courts again, which ensured his release today.

The case is about a woman named Mariyamma who lived in Velagapudi of Thullur mandal, who had raised complaints against the YSRCP government for mismanaging her pension. Allegedly, Mariyamma’s house was attacked by Suresh’s activists, and it led to her tragic death. A case was registered by the police in 2020. Accusations against the authorities came as they allegedly didn’t take swift action under the YSRCP government.

After the NDA coalition assumed power in Andhra Pradesh, Suresh was confronted with several charges, including involvement in the TDP office attack. Initially granted bail, he was re-arrested following his involvement in the Mariyamma murder case. His first attempt to seek bail from the High Court was unsuccessful.

Despite a denial from the Supreme Court, Suresh continued to fight for his release. After spending nearly five months in jail, his persistence paid off when the Mangalagiri Court granted him bail. The court set conditions for his release, including a bond of Rs. 10,000, and directed Suresh to cooperate with the ongoing investigation by attending hearings as required.
