AP Fibernet cancels Rs 100 crore penalties on cable operators

AP Fibernet Chairman GV Reddy announced that they are canceling Rs 10 crore penalties imposed by the previous government on some cable operators in the state. He also withdrew the policy of charging Rs. 59 per month per connection from cable operators under setup box rental across the state.

He said that the plans will be revised to provide Fibernet services to consumers at a lower price (basic package price). GV Reddy said that during the previous government’s tenure, many employees were appointed in Fibernet illegally and against the rules. So, another 200 employees were dismissed.

GV Reddy said that the number of employees dismissed so far regarding Fibernet has reached 600. He announced that during his government’s tenure, job recruitment will be carried out in a transparent manner. He announced that job notifications will be issued soon and jobs will be given only to those who are competent and qualified.

He said that corruption and irregularities took place in Fibernet during the previous government’s tenure. An investigation will be conducted to this extent. Moreover, many allegations have been made against network managers and executives in the districts. 50% of them will be dismissed from their jobs, he added.

GV Reddy said that internet and cable connections will be provided on a concessional basis to companies coming to invest in the state. He also said that AP Fibernet connections will be provided free of cost to all offices, houses and shops on Tirumala Hill. He said that new setup boxes will be made available from April.

He said that there will be activities to increase the number of connections in the state. He said that Rs. 2,500 crore will be required for these new setup boxes and these funds will be borrowed from various institutions and banks. He made it clear that they are not making allegations for politics, but will investigate corruption and irregularities with solid evidence and take action.

Alleging that the previous government has left over Rs 900 crore losses and Rs 1260 crore debts, GV Reddy said whatever difficulties may be they are committed to provide quality services at half the price compared to previous regime.
