RGV Responds on Social Media After Being Sentenced to Jail in Cheque Bounce Case

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has been sentenced to three months in jail by the Andheri Magistrate Court in a cheque bounce case. The court has also issued a non-bailable warrant against the controversial director.

In response, Varma took to social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to provide clarity on the matter. He explained, “The case pertains to a cheque bounce issue involving ₹2.38 lakh, filed by my former employee seven years ago. My lawyers are handling the case, and as it is still under litigation, I cannot comment further at this stage.”

Additionally, the court has directed Varma to pay ₹3.72 lakh in compensation to the complainant within three months. If the payment is not made, the court has stated that another three months of imprisonment will be imposed.

The case was initially filed in 2018 by Mahesh Chandra, and legal proceedings have been ongoing for the past seven years. Sources indicate that Varma has failed to attend court hearings, leading the court to issue a non-bailable warrant and pass its judgment.
