The main opposition party BRS is said to be hesitating to contest in the forthcoming MLC polls. MLC polls are scheduled to be held soon, of which two seats are from Teachers and one seat is from Graduates. So far only BJP has announced candidates for all three seats.
Both Congress and BRS are unlikely to field candidates in Teacher MLC seats and PCC Chief Mahesh Gowd said two days ago that they will announce candidates for Graduate MLC seats in two days. Former minister and senior Congress leader T. Jeevan Reddy is the sitting MLC from the constituency.
Jeevan Reddy has won in the last elections from the Adilabad-Nizamabad- Karimnagar- Medak Graduate constituency. Though several BRS leaders are showing interest to contest from the Graduate constituency, party’s working president KT Rama Rao recently indicated that his party is unlikely to contest from this seat also.
As the number of voters in the Graduate MLC elections are not more, he said that the local body elections are more important. The biennial Legislative Council elections are likely to be held in February or March. The term of three MLC seats will end on March 29.
Raghottam Reddy, who was elected as an MLC from the Adilabad-Nizamabad-Karimnagar-Medak Teachers’ Constituency, and Narsi Reddy, who was elected from the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ Constituency, are among those who will retire in Teacher constituencies.
The ECI has also already announced the voters’ list for these three constituencies. Despite being in power in the state in 2019, the BRS did not officially field a candidate in the election fray. Chandrasekhar Goud, who contested independently, was given unofficial support at the last minute.
After that, BRS fielded candidates in the Mahabubnagar-Hyderabad- Ranga Reddy graduate constituency as well as Warangal- Khammam- Nalgonda graduate constituency. It has become interesting to see what decision it will take in this phase of the elections.
Several BRS aspirants are making efforts to contest in the graduate quota MLC elections. Former Karimnagar Mayor Sardar Ravinder Singh, former TSTS Chairman Chirumalla Rakesh, former Beverages Corporation Chairman and former TNGO President Devi Prasad, BRSV President Gellu Srinivas Yadav, Rajaram Yadav, Chanti Rahul and others were in the race.
