A Cabinet Sub Committee (Group of Ministers) was formed on the proposal to allocate an additional 500 acres of land for the Bhogapuram Greenfield Airport. It was formed under the Chairmanship of Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav and includes Investment and Infrastructure Minister BC Janardhan Reddy and Industries Minister TG Bharat as members. Chief Secretary Vijayanand issued orders to this effect.
GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited (GVIAL) has proposed to hand over 500 acres more of land intended for the Bhogapuram International Airport. GVIAL stated that this land is required for city-side development next to the international airport.
The government has instructed the Group of Ministers (GoM) to study the socio-economic development aspects of Northern Andhra as part of the Swarnandhra Vision. Orders have also been issued to study the issues related to high-tech production, ancillary services and the establishment of an aviation hub in the aviation sector.
The GoM (Group of Ministers) has been advised to examine various aspects related to land development to generate revenue after allotment of land for GMR Visakhapatnam Greenfield International Airport. The government has directed the GoM to submit a report on the study as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the government has allotted 2203 acres of land for the development of the Greenfield Airport (Bhogapuram International Airport) in Bhogapuram. GVIAL has submitted a proposal to allocate 2703 acres of land in that area. A Committee of Ministers has been constituted to study the allocation of additional 500 acres of land.
Meanwhile, the airport construction work is progressing rapidly in Bhogapuram. As part of the first phase, the development work of the air space, education zone, air city, industrial zone, spare parts manufacturing industries, healthcare zone, health and hospitality sectors will be completed. The airport is being developed with the aim of serving 6.8 lakh passengers every year. This has been increased to 40 lakhs in stages.
