Dr. Kambhampati Hari Babu from Andhra Pradesh, who is the Governor of Mizoram, has been appointed as the Governor of Odisha by the Central Government. Former Union Minister General VK Singh will take over as the Governor of Mizoram in his place.
The President Droupadi Murmu has appointed new Governors for a total of 5 states. Three were transferred from one state to another and two were newly appointed. The President’s Office issued a press release to this effect on Tuesday night.
Dr. Hari Babu, who served as the AP BJP President and Visakhapatnam MP, was appointed as the Governor of Mizoram on November 6, 2021. In September, he fell seriously ill and underwent treatment in Hyderabad and recovered.
As he was unable to attend duties due to illness, Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy was given additional responsibilities of the state for some time. Kambhampati recently recovered from his illness and resumed his duties as the Governor of Mizoram. It seems that he was transferred to the border state of Odisha keeping in mind his health condition.
General VK Singh won the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections and served as a Union Minister. The BJP leadership did not give him a ticket in the 2024 elections. Instead, it has now given him the responsibility of the governor.
On the other hand, Raghubar Das, who is currently the Governor of Odisha, has resigned. The Central Government has appointed former Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla as the Governor of Manipur.
The term of Anasuya Uike, who is currently the Governor of the state, ended on July 30 this year, and since then, those responsibilities have been carried out by Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya.
Bhalla, who served as the Union Home Secretary for a long time from 2019 to August 2024, has a complete understanding of the conditions in Manipur. On the other hand, the central government transferred Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan to Bihar and Rajendra Vishwanath Rlekar, who was the Governor there, to Kerala.
