Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said that he is committed to the promise of providing 34 percent reservation to BCs in nominated posts and will bring legality to this as well. He held a review with BC Welfare Department officials at the State Secretariat and reminded them that due to the negligence of the previous government, BC reservations in local bodies had been reduced from 34 percent to 24 percent.
With this, he said they were deprived of 16,500 posts. The officials explained the suggestions made by the Committee of Ministers on the Special Protection Act for the protection of BCs. The CM suggested that this law be brought after some more work to avoid technical and legal difficulties.
The Chief Minister directed for immediate repair of girls’ hostels and payment of diet charges, cosmetic charges and tutor fees. ‘We have already paid Rs.76.38 crore of the arrears of Rs.110 crore of diet bills imposed by the previous government. The remaining Rs.34.14 crore of pending bills should also be paid. If the cosmetic bills are Rs.20 crore pending, we have paid Rs.7.10 crore when we arrived. Rs.18 crore has been allocated in the budget for trunk boxes and other items for students. They should be purchased quickly and provided to the students,’ he added.
Chandrababu Naidu asked to prepare an action plan regarding the Rs. 896 crore loan of BCs. Similarly, he said the necessary funds should be allocated for the construction of the remaining 4 Kapu buildings and completed. Cooperative finance should be established for each community and efforts should be made to strengthen the respective communities, he said.
He said that arrangements should be made to start SR Sankaran Knowledge Centers soon. This will be implemented as pilot projects in 104 BC hostels in 26 districts.
It is known that many of the disabled people receiving pensions in the state are ineligible. CM said on this occasion that his intention is to provide pensions and schemes to all the eligible people and it is not right to give them to the ineligible ones. He said that specific rules should be implemented to know who is eligible and who is not. He ordered a full-scale inspection of pensions to remove the ineligible.
