TDP, YCP, BRS Are one At Parliament on `One Nation- One Election’ Bill

In Telugu states TDP, YCP and BRS are known as hard political rivals. While TDP is a key constituent of BJP-led NDA, both YCP and BRS are political rivals of BJP in two Telugu states.

But, surprisingly in New Delhi, these three parties have been practising the same political line for the last several years. Directly or indirectly they are supported at all crucial times in the Parliament.

It may be recalled that both YCP and BRS have extended support to BJP in almost all key matters when both the parties were in power in their respective states, though BJP remained in opposition in the two states. This comradeship between these three parties in the Parliament has reflected once again.

These three parties are continuing keeping away from Congress and practically distancing themselves with the opposition block in the Parliament. That stands indirectly bringing them somewhat closer to the BJP.

After the Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the `One Nation- One Election’ bill in the Lok Sabha, which was referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), the stand being taken by every member became crucial. Though BRS has no representation in the Lok Sabha, its solid base in the Rajya Sabha is very crucial for this bill.

Though almost all the opposition parties are opposing these bills, containing two constitutional amendments, interestingly these three Telugu parties are supporting the bill. When the Speaker Om Birla took a vote on the issue of admitting the bill, along with TDP, which is a key partner in the Narendra Modi-led NDA government, the opposition YCP also extended support.

Afcourse, along with them, naturally Jana Sena MPs also stood by the Center. Jana Sena is also constituent of the NDA. With this, it seems that all of them stood by the Center’s move for simultaneous elections.
